School building for Silkeborg Municipality
Extension of Gødvad School
The building consists of a total of 13 custom-built modules, fitted out as four large, bright classrooms with associated cloakroom and toilet facilities, as well as a group room and an accessible toilet. In addition, the building includes a large, open common area that invites play and learning.
As the building permit application was submitted before 1 July 2025 and the construction comprises less than 1,000 m², no official life cycle assessment has been prepared for the project. However, based on calculations from our comparable construction projects, the LCA result is expected to be around 7.2 kg CO₂e/m²/year, of which 20% is assessed to derive from the building’s operation.

Project design
The new school building is clad in natural-coloured Thermowood and black-painted timber cladding to create visual contrast. The choice of materials gives the building a natural and warm appearance, while the building’s square form creates cohesion with the other school buildings. The building has high insulation performance and low energy consumption in accordance with current building regulations and is heated with an air-to-water heat pump.
Internally, the building is constructed using carefully selected, healthy materials that provide a good indoor climate with favourable daylight conditions and good acoustics. The building is ventilated via decentralised systems with heat recovery and COâ‚‚ control, which helps to create a good teaching and learning environment.
