Daycare centre for Silkeborg Municipality
Børnehuset Funder Allé
The newly built childcare centre in Funder, a suburb of Silkeborg, consists of 27 custom-built modules and accommodates 126 children aged 0–6. The modules are assembled into five functional kindergarten rooms and two nursery units, all with associated cloakrooms and toilets, as well as a playroom and a large central heart space in the middle of the building. The building is designed with a focus on daylight, a healthy indoor climate, and easy access to both the arrival side and the outdoor play areas.

Project design
Centrally in the building is the large, high-ceilinged heart space. This location provides easy access from both the kindergarten and nursery sections. The space is designed for play, and the substantial beam at the apex of the room allows for the installation of, for example, swings or climbing ropes.
Externally, the building is clad in sections with untreated Thermo pine and green compact laminate. The roof is finished with roofing felt and fitted with solar panels. The building is ventilated with decentralised ventilation units and heated via hydronic underfloor heating connected to district heating.
The building is installed on point foundations, which drastically reduce the amount of concrete and thereby lower the climate impact. The foundations also make it easier to relocate the building should the need arise.
